How to Book a Hot Air Balloon Ride in Cappadocia (Without Breaking the Bank)

Cappadocia is that sort of a place where you do not believe it until you are flying over it. The chimneys of the fairytale, the valleys covered in sunlight, and the ancient caves all become exciting with the sunrise as hundreds of colorful hot air balloons are launched into the air.

It is the stuff of travel dreams, and yes it can be surprisingly cheap once you know a few tricks.

When I came to Goreme, I was sure that I couldn't afford to take a balloon ride. I found most of the prices on the internet being above 200 dollars and that was miles beyond my backpacker budget.

However, with a little bit of inquiry and some luck, I found myself flying at a cost of slightly less than 120 dollars and it was amazing.

Note: if you are travelling on a budget then you can book Stansted Airport Cheap parking and save money for your trip.

Here is how you can also do it.

Not Online, Book in Cappadocia

Booking in advance is tempting, however, prices on the internet are normally inflated. When you get to the town, you will be able to find tens and tens of agencies that provide balloon tours.

Take a stroll, shop around, and do not hesitate to ask for a few extra bucks here and there; it especially applies to last-minute bookings and traveling out of season.

Shoulder Season Travel

Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) are the times of lower prices when the weather remains good, but there are fewer people. I did it in October when it was cheaper and the autumn light was golden and beautiful.

Choose a Standard Basket

The flights are deluxe, comfort and standard. The regular rides typically take approximately 60 minutes, accommodate more passengers, and provide the same jaw-dropping scenery. Believe me, nobody thinks about the legroom when he/she is in the air, he/she is too busy catching his/her breath at the sunrise.

A lot of guesthouses are in collaboration with balloon companies and can offer you reduced prices. Mine even assisted me in getting a place with a last minute cancellation!
