How to Explore Prague on Foot: A Self-Guided Walking Tour

Begin Your Day at Old Town Square

The heart of Prague is the Old Town Square. Go there before the crush begins and see the Astronomical Clock strike the hour.

The pastel facades are radiated by the morning light and street musicians begin to warm up their instruments. Take a fresh trdelnik off the nearest stall, cinnamon sugar will give you energy during the first part of your walk.

Walk Charles Bridge at Your Pace

Take your time and wander over the Charles Bridge and gaze at the statues that flank the sides. The Vltava River gently reflects beneath, and swans are passing.

There are street artists and vendors lining the cobblestones, selling everything including sketches and hand made jewelry. You may even get a violinist performing some haunting Czech tune, if you are lucky enough.

Side note: If you are travelling for a short period then you can book long stay parking Luton  and keep your vehicle safe.

Get Lost in Lesser Town

After you cross the bridge, enter the beauty of Lesser Town (Mal Strana). This part is more calm, as though you have travelled back in time. Scuttle through tiny courtyards, spy into secret gardens, and perhaps have a coffee in a cafe hidden in a building that is centuries old.

Hike up to Prague Castle

It is a little hike, but well worth it. The road goes upwards, offering you panoramas of the red rooftops of the city. Within the castle complex, St. Vitus Cathedral stands above it all with stained glass windows that appear like jewels in the sun.

Finish with a Sunset Walk on the Vltava

When it grows late in the day, move toward the banks of the river. The light becomes soft and the skyline of Prague is mirrored in water. Seek out a bench and listen to the slight roar of the passing boats, and see the city gradually lighten up into night.

Strolling in Prague is not sightseeing, it is entering a living postcard, where history, music and everyday life mix into something, which one will never forget.
